Sex-Bias Settlement

Newman University, a 2,000-student Roman Catholic institution in Wichita, Kan., has agreed to pay $182,500 to settle a sex-discrimination lawsuit filed on behalf of a former dean of admissions by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, according to The Wichita Eagle. This is the second sex-bias case settled by the university in recent months. The former admissions dean, Marla Sexson, said the university, which was formerly a women’s institution, retaliated against her after she complained of being passed over for a promotion. She is now an admissions official at Friends University, also in Wichita.
