'Set Point' May Shape Drug Addicts' Behavior
An experiment in which rats were able to administer cocaine to themselves suggests a new explanation for the behavior of humans who are addicted to cocaine.
In the experiment, reported in the October 9 issue of Science, researchers divided the rats into two groups. One group was given access to cocaine for one hour at a time. The other group of rats had access to cocaine for six hours at a time.
