Senators Urged to Back Technology Program for Minority Colleges

The presidents of five colleges that predominantly serve minority students told a Senate committee last month that a proposed $250-million grant program to help their institutions build digital and wireless infrastructures would help prepare young people to join the work force.

The presidents testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Sen. George Allen, a Virginia Republican on the committee, wrote the bill that would establish the program, which is
