Senator Accuses NIH of Greediness
U.S. Sen. Pete V. Domenici has blasted supporters of increased spending at the National Institutes of Health as "pigs."
The harsh attack came from Mr. Domenici, a New Mexico Republican, this month as the Senate debated a resolution laying out federal spending levels for next year. In particular, Mr. Domenici took issue with an amendment that authorized increasing the NIH's spending by $2-billion in the 2005 fiscal year, which begins October 1, to approximately $30-billion.
