Senate Rejects Rise in Pell Grants
The U.S. Senate approved a spending bill late last week that would leave the maximum Pell Grant at $4,050 in the 2004 fiscal year, after an amendment that would have increased the grant to $4,500 failed to pass.
The House of Representatives took the same position in a version of the spending bill that it approved. Negotiators from the Senate and House will meet to reconcile differences in spending levels for other programs in the two bills and produce a compromise version to finance
