Senate Passes $600-Billion Spending Bill for Health and Education
Setting the stage for a showdown with President Bush, the U.S. Senate has passed a health-and-education spending bill that exceeds President Bush's budget request by $11-billion.
The president has threatened to veto the measure over what he has called "irresponsible and excessive" spending. It would take a two-thirds majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to override such a veto.
