Senate Panel Calls for Inquiry Into Education Department's Susceptibility to Fraud
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions unanimously approved a bill last week that would require the General Accounting Office to investigate whether the Education Department is susceptible to "waste, fraud, and abuse."
The bill, which was approved by a voice vote, is expected to be considered on the Senate floor in the next few weeks. The measure is almost identical to legislation approved by the House of Representatives in June.
