Senate Panel Backs Job-Training Bill

The U.S. Senate committee that oversees education easily approved legislation last week that would authorize a new program of job-training grants for colleges and universities.

The legislation, S 1021, would reauthorize, or renew, the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, which governs a multibillion-dollar program in the Labor Department. The House of Representatives passed a similar measure, HR 27, in March.
