Senate Panel Approves Spending Bill With Increases for Student Aid

The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday afternoon approved a $163.1-billion spending bill for the 2010 fiscal year that would raise government funds for the Pell Grant program and the National Institutes of Health above this year's levels, but hold spending on several other programs of interest to higher education at 2009 levels.
