Senate Panel Acts on Charity Abuses
The Senate Finance Committee has approved a series of measures designed to encourage greater accountability among donors and nonprofit organizations, including colleges.
Among other things, the measures would impose tough new penalties on donors who try to inflate the value of their gifts and on organizations that engage in improper political activities. In addition, the measures approved by the committee would:
