Senate Bill Would Exempt Colleges From Cap on Number of Visas for Foreign Workers
Legislation before the U.S. Senate would exempt colleges from a cap on visas for highly skilled foreign professionals, making it significantly easier for institutions to hire researchers and professors from overseas.
The Republican-sponsored bill would also raise the cap to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in high-tech industries. The government now annually issues 115,000 H-1B visas, which are renewable, three-year work permits for foreign professionals with college
