Senate Bill Backs Database of Students
Senate leaders have proposed federal grants that would help states set up databases to track college students' educational progress, through a provision tucked into a broader draft bill to improve science education and economic competitiveness. Creating such a "unit record" system was one of the more controversial draft recommendations made last month by the federal advisory commission on higher education.
