Senate Backs Exemption From Hiring Rules for 2 Indian Colleges
The Senate approved a bill last week that would exempt federally owned and operated colleges for American Indians from most federal hiring and personnel regulations.
The legislation, which has already been approved by the House of Representatives, would exempt Haskell Indian Nations University, in Lawrence, Kan., and Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, in Albuquerque, N.M., from federal civil-service
