Senate Backs Cybersecurity Bill

The U.S. Senate has passed a bill that would expand research on securing computer networks from hackers and terrorists. The bill, approved in mid-October, includes language that would restrict the ability of some foreign scholars to participate in the research.

A similar version of the bill passed the House of Representatives in February. The House must vote for the new version, HR 3394, before it can be sent to President Bush, who is expected to sign it into law. The House may
