Seeking Savings, U. of Southern Mississippi Cuts Deans and Combines Colleges
The University of Southern Mississippi has announced a sweeping reorganization of its colleges and departments that will eliminate four of its nine dean positions and consolidate several colleges, as the institution seeks savings because of a tight state budget.
The university has told all of the current deans that they will have to reapply for the remaining five positions, which will also be open to other applicants.
The announcement caught many faculty members by surprise
