Last month's demonstration at Emerson College was part of a week of coordinated events held to highlight the plight of faculty members on short-term contracts.

Nationally, part-timers represent 43 percent of the professoriate. Most of them are paid just a few thousand dollars per course, and many are not eligible for additional benefits, like health insurance.
