Secular Universities That Are Catholic
To the Editor:
As an admirer of Nathan O. Hatch and a current Catholic, though formerly a Presbyterian, I was surprised and disappointed by his "Intellectual and Moral Purpose Still Meet at Catholic Universities" (The Chronicle Review, May 6). I am surprised that he did not discuss the core of the Vatican's problems with many American Catholic institutions: their accelerating drift away from the church's official doctrine and teaching.
