In March, Ronald C. Slye received a surprising Facebook message.
It came from the African Union's Panel of Eminent Persons, led by former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, which was setting up a nine-person Kenyan Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation Commission.
And it asked: Would Mr. Slye be interested in serving as one of three foreign members?
The associate professor at Seattle University's law school zipped off his CV for consideration.
