Searching for Pirates in a College Network
Most colleges and universities don't like to collect file-sharing data from their own networks. Not only don't they want to violate students' privacy, but they also don't want to be held liable for what they find.
Officials at Illinois State University, however, say their Digital Citizen data-scanning project can collect information, maximize privacy, and minimize liability — all at the same time.
