Scientists Promise Cheaper 'Gene Chips'
Gene chips, a widely praised technology in genetics that automates the search for particular segments of DNA, may soon become available to more scientists.
One company, Affymetrix, of Santa Clara, Cal., dominates the market for the chips, which cost from $2,500 off the shelf to $12,000 for the custom variety.
