Scientists Fear Possible Settlement of Lawsuit Over Rules on Animal Research
Lobbyists for biomedical researchers are protesting a possible move by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to amend the Animal Welfare Act to regulate the way birds, mice, and rats are used in laboratory experiments.
The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology sent a letter to the department this month urging officials to halt negotiations to settle a lawsuit against the agency over its enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act, the only federal law dealing with animals
