Scientific Research and Popular Beliefs About the Gender Gap
To the Editor:
According to Rosalind C. Barnett and Caryl Rivers, academe has unwittingly adopted a narrative about sexual difference that is unsupported by good science ("Men Are From Earth, and So Are Women. It's Faulty Research That Sets Them Apart," The Chronicle Review, September 3). Essentialist ideas are embedded in much of the humanities and social sciences, including even "feminist pedagogy" and "gender studies."
