Scientific Probability Is Enough
To the Editor:
Colin Woodard does an excellent job of focusing on the science, rather than the politics, of global warming ("The Great Melt: Is It Normal, or the Result of Global Warming?," July 14). Scientists can never be completely sure; they always need more data.
From a policy point of view, however, the problem is that by the time scientists have enough data to approach certainty as to whether global warming is significantly affected by humans, it will be too late. This
