Science Journals Must Develop Stronger Safeguards Against Fraud, Panel Says

In the wake of the South Korean cloning scandal, top science journals should develop stronger safeguards against fraud and should no longer rely on the assumption of trust that has governed science for centuries.

Those are the conclusions reached by a panel of scientists and editors charged with reviewing how the journal Science assessed two papers on cloning and stem cells by the disgraced scientist Woo Suk Hwang. The review panel, which released its report last week, concluded that
