Scholars Learn to Look for the Union Label
The annual meeting of the American Studies Association this fall may heat up, but not because of anything to do with American studies. The fireworks may come from a labor dispute at the meeting hotel.
The group is set to convene at Marriott's Renaissance Washington, D.C. Hotel -- an establishment that the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union, a member of the A.F.L.-C.I.O., has been protesting for nearly 18 years because the hotel refuses to allow its employees
