Scholarly Books Don't Fit a Scholar's Budget

In "Buy a Scholarly Book, for Your Own Good" (The Chronicle Review, October 9), Boyd Zenner of the University of Virginia Press expressly singles out literary critics for not buying scholarly books: "Do they really have so much less discretionary income than their colleagues that they must borrow all of their books from the university library … rather than purchase a reasonable number
