Scholar Released but Not Free

Haleh Esfandiari, an Iranian-American scholar and director of the Middle East program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, in Washington, was released on bail in August from an Iranian prison where she had been held since May. But she will not be able to leave the country anytime soon.

Mohseni Ejeie, Iran's intelligence minister, told reporters that it was up to a judge to decide whether to clear the scholar.
