Sara Lipka

Background: Sara Lipka, who joined The Chronicle of Higher Education in 2003, writes about student legal issues, campus conduct, and student life. In 2008 she spoke on a panel of emergency-communications experts at the annual meeting of the Public Affairs Network of the Association of American Universities.

Before coming to The Chronicle, Lipka worked as an intern at The Atlantic, to which she continues to contribute. She graduated from Duke University summa cum laude in 2001, then spent a year in Santiago, Chile, as a Fulbright fellow, studying political theater.

Lipka left The Chronicle for six months in 2009 to live and work on an organic produce farm; now she helps run a school garden. She has also worked as a baseball umpire.
