San Diego Doesn't Want to Be a Party Town, for Loud Students Anyway

San Diego State University students who throw raucous off-campus parties could be slapped with $1,000 fines under a measure approved on Wednesday by a City Council committee, The Daily Aztec, a student newspaper, reported. During a six-month trial period, the fines will be assessed by either campus or local police officers responding to complaints, which numbered more than 1,000 last year. Many of the parties are held in the city’s “mini-dorms” — single-family homes that investors have purchased, renovated with additional bedrooms, and then rented to students. The trend is a growing problem in the city, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
