Salaries for Professors and Administrators

Peter S. Cahn's "Number Crunching" (Careers, December 12) makes many good points, but unfortunately his conclusions are a bit off the mark. The higher pay awarded to administrators does not reflect "priorities" as much as it reflects economic realities. Five factors ensure that administrators are more highly paid, on average, than are faculty members.
