State University of New York trustees are expected to vote on Thursday to name an interim chancellor — and according to the White Plains Journal News, they’re expected to pick John B. Clark, an administrator who has already been interim president on four SUNY campuses, as well as interim vice chancellor for enrollment and university life.
The current chancellor, Vice Adm. John R. Ryan, leaves office on Friday after not quite a year and a half in the post (The Chronicle, March 16).
“I’m sort of the designated interim guy at the State University of New York,” said Mr. Clark, who is not a candidate to fill the chancellor’s job permanently. If the trustees approve his nomination, however, he will earn the chancellor’s salary — $340,000 a year — and enjoy the chancellor’s Albany residence and New York apartment until a permanent chancellor is selected. —Lawrence Biemiller
