Rutgers U. Defends Women's Basketball Players Against Radio Host's Vulgarity

Rutgers University officials stood up last week and publicly defended their women's basketball team against the remarks of the radio talk-show host Don Imus, who called the players "nappy-headed hos" in a broadcast earlier this month that has drawn widespread outrage.

"We cannot stand silent and let these young women be unfairly attacked," Rutgers's president, Richard L. McCormick, said at a news conference. He and the athletics director, Robert E. Mulcahy III, called the comment by
