'Rutgers Magazine' Violated the First Amendment, Judge Rules
A New Jersey judge has ruled that a magazine published by Rutgers University violated the First Amendment rights of an alumni group by rejecting an advertisement opposing the university's participation in big-time athletics.
Judge Joseph C. Messina, in a ruling issued orally from the bench, said that because Rutgers Magazine had, at times, run stories and ads concerning the university's participation in big-time sports, the rejection of the ad from the alumni group amounted to
