Russian Academy of Sciences Rejects Changes Sought by Government
The Russian Academy of Sciences has spurned government designs to change how it is run, placing itself on a collision course with officials who have been determined to wrench away the autonomy of the centuries-old organization.
The academy refused last month to adopt any of the provisions suggested for its charter by the Ministry of Education and Science. Instead, members voted almost unanimously to retain the current charter, aspects of which do not appear to comply with revisions
