Russia Takes Over Science Academy
The Russian Academy of Sciences is about to lose not only its autonomy but possibly its name as well.
The country's 282-year-old citadel of fundamental research would be stripped of the power to select its own leaders and to allocate funds under legislative revisions that were approved this month at a closed-door meeting of the Russian cabinet.
