Ruling in Notre Dame Case Could Protect Colleges in Lawsuits Over Grants
A federal appeals court has potentially given colleges an added layer of protection against lawsuits over their use of government funds, ruling that the University of Notre Dame cannot be asked to repay a federal grant spent training Catholic school teachers.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit affirmed that two dissatisfied taxpayers lack the standing necessary to try to force Notre Dame to pay back the $462,500 federal grant it received in June 2000.
