Mitt Romney, who finished second in Iowa’s caucuses last week, took first in Wyoming’s Republican primary over the weekend.
The former governor of Massachusetts won eight of Wyoming’s 12 delegates, Fred Thompson won three, and Duncan Hunter got one.
The Republican National Committee has penalized Wyoming’s party, cutting its number of delegates in half, because the state party held its primary earlier than allowed by national party officials. Democrats in the state are scheduled to vote on March 8.
As governor, Mr. Romney brought a businessman’s perspective to higher education in Massachusetts, taking an analytic but not always successful approach to reform.
On the eve of tomorrow’s key New Hampshire primary, though, Mr. Romney’s poll numbers are behind those of John McCain in eight of 10 surveys, says U.S. News and World Report.
Among Democrats, Barack Obama is ahead in eight of 10 polls in New Hampshire, according to the magazine.
