Prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old student at Rider University’s Westminster Choir College in connection with the death of a fellow student. According to the Associated Press, prosecutors in Mercer County, N.J., said that Kiernan Hunt, who is 19, sold heroin to Justin R. Warfield on Tuesday evening. The next morning, Mr. Warfield, an 18-year-old freshman, died of an apparent overdose.
In August two administrators and three students at Rider were charged with aggravated hazing in the drinking death of a freshman during a fraternity initiation last spring. The charges against the administraters were later dropped.
A message on Rider’s Web site said the university had developed new strategies for discouraging drug and alcohol abuse on its campus: “We will continue to take whatever steps are necessary,” it said, “to ensure that we provide an even safer learning environment for all of our students.” —Eric Hoover
