Rhetoric's Spokesman
"Spare me the rhetoric, senator." "Mere rhetoric." The word, it seems, is seldom used other than in a pejorative sense, especially as the 2008 presidential campaign heats up.
A visiting professor of rhetoric at Hamilton College says his beloved subject has gotten a bad rap, and now he's coming to its defense.
John C. Adams designed a T-shirt that reads, "Ask me about rhetoric." He was surprised by the reaction he received when he wore the shirt to a local mall.
