Retirements at Tehran U. Raise Purge Fears
Tshe University of Tehran announced last month that 40 to 45 faculty members who had reached the age of 65 were being "retired," raising concerns that, in some cases, professors were being forced out because of their opposition to Iran's conservative Islamic authorities.
Academics critical of the government say the dismissals appear to be part of creeping efforts by the authorities to assert their control over the officially autonomous universities. June marked the one-year anniversary
