Resident Assistants at UMass Vote to Unionize
Students who are resident assistants at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst voted last week to bargain collectively, becoming the first union of dormitory RA's anywhere.
The vote for the union came despite the university's efforts to stop the move.
Of the approximately 360 resident assistants who were eligible to vote, 238 cast ballots, with 138 voting in favor of the union and 88 opposing it. Twelve challenged ballots were set aside.
