Researchers at U. of Hawaii-Manoa Bemoan Big Cut in Book Purchases
A budget gap at the University of Hawaii-Manoa has led the campus library to slash spending on new books by a third. Some faculty members called the move a threat to Manoa's stature as a leading research institution, and one librarian described the effect as "a huge scar" on the collection.
Library officials said they had drastically reduced planned book purchases from major academic and trade publishers through at least June because of a projected shortfall in the library's budget
