Researchers Use Gene Therapy to Ease Pain in Rats
Scientists have successfully tested a way of using gene therapy to ease the pain of rats, one step toward developing such a therapy for humans.
The scientists injected a virus carrying a gene for a natural painkiller into the spinal fluid of rats. Cells in the sheath surrounding the rats' spine incorporated the gene, and began manufacturing the painkiller.
