Researchers' Heart Joins Space-Shuttle Mission

While scientists this week were planning to monitor the effects of space travel on Sen. John Glenn's 77-year-old body, a professor here at Bellarmine College was anxious to test the effects on an artificial heart that's also aboard the space shuttle Discovery.

Thomas E. Bennett, an associate professor of biology, heads a team of researchers who are investigating why the heart shrinks and pumps less blood per heartbeat in conditions of
