Researchers Grow Artificial Arteries
Researchers have used cells from pigs' arteries and a spongy synthetic tube to grow artificial arteries in a simulated fetal environment.
While artificial arteries have been grown before, the scientists said the new ones were the closest approximation of real arteries ever created. Such artificial blood vessels might someday be used to replace coronary arteries in people with heart disease.
