A California-based nonprofit group that grades the states on how well they provide their residents with a higher education will continue to exist into its 11th year, officials at the organization, the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, said today.
Last summer, leaders of the center said that their board members and financial supporters would reassess the group’s future this year. At the time, Patrick M. Callan, the group’s president, said the center could close, merge with another group, or continue in some form.
The center, which opened in 1998, receives most of its financial support from a group of foundations, including the Atlantic Philanthropies, the Ford Foundation, and the Pew Charitable Trusts. The group has been issuing state-by-state report cards since 2000, most recently last September. —Sara Hebel
