Blacksburg, Va. — I went to the Department of Foreign Languages this afternoon because one of the faculty members who was killed on Monday was Christopher James Bishop, an instructor in the department. His wife, Stefanie Hofer, is an assistant professor in the same department, but she was not hurt. I went to their office doors, and on her door I found a note left for him. The note was in German, and it was written in pencil. Translated, it says: “Jamie, I’ve left campus and I am at home. Your Stefie 12:15.” —John Gravois
