Report Prompts Reforms by U. of California President

The University of California has begun acting on recommendations made last week by an independent committee in a harshly critical report on the university’s compensation policies and practices (The Chronicle, April 14). The changes announced today by the university closely mirror recommendations in the report, including improved disclosure and transparency of university compensation packages and development of a comprehensive human-resources system.

Robert C. Dynes, the university system’s president, said today’s actions represented all of the committee’s recommendations that do not fall under the purview of the system’s Board of Regents. “I have heard the task force loud and clear: Major change is required, and we need to begin implementing that change immediately,” Mr. Dynes said in a written statement.
