The Education Commission of the States issued a report today on how states can enhance their high-school students’ readiness for college. The report, which follows a host of recent studies of the issue (The Chronicle, September 12, 2005), outlines the growing practice in several states of inserting readiness indicators in high-school curricula and assessments. The report also describes how 15 states—Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia—are aligning high-school curricula with college standards.
