Repairing Old Books, Publishing New Ones

To the Editor:

We at the Appalachian State University library would like to note that the sadly tattered books in the dramatic cover photo of the September 20 issue were damaged items returned to our library and were awaiting repair or discard ("The Crumbling Intellectual Foundation"). Any dynamic library collection is battered in the line of duty by chewing dogs, falling rain, and trips to the beach.
